The 34 year old former Arsenal and Barcelona striker is currently training with his former club in the close season in the MLS, where he plays for New York Red Bulls. With Gervinho and Maruone Chamakh leaving the squad next month to participate in African Cup of Nations, Wenger is expected to sign a striker to take the burden off his star striker Robin van Persie.
Contrary to the reports published in many papers, Wenger refused to have held talks with Henry on the subject. He told the club’s official website:
“I see his [Gourcuff’s] evolution in a positive way. He is back from a long injury that put him away from the pitch for five months. He needs time to come back. That is typical. From January to May, he has time to get back to his best.”
