Chief Executive of Arsenal FC, Ivan Gazidis, has hinted that the club are ready to offer manager, Arsene Wenger, another contract to keep him beyond the current one that ends at the completion of next season (2013-2014).
The club have offered the Frenchman three-year contracts in the past and if they follow suit with the new one, it will take him beyond 2017 and beyond 20 years of managing the North-London club.
“We have a great relationship and he has a great relationship with the board as well. So, quietly and at the right time, I think we will make an announcement on that
“What I really don’t want to do is have a public discussion about Arsene’s contractual position. That would be a daily, weekly fixture on the public coverage if you start getting into that.
“This is going to happen very quietly behind closed doors, privately and then there will be an announcement.”
The news comes as a huge relief to some of the supporters who were doubtful if Wenger, the most successful Arsenal manager, would stay, but it will equally disappoint a number of fans who have taken to against the Frenchman for not winning any trophies in the past eight years.
However, according to various reports, Arsenal have about £70 million to spend in the market and they’re going to be busy in the summer, recruiting heavily. The likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic, Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas have been strongly linked, and any one of these names playing for the club would mark a huge statement of intent to the other money-flavoured clubs.
