In the first generation of Pokemon games, the Kanto region was host to 151 unique Pokemon, with each having distinct characteristics that have remained mostly intact over the past three decades. Some of the most notable Pokemon from Kanto appeared in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet as well, with some receiving new variants in different generations. From Meowth receiving two regional variations in Pokemon Sun and Moon, and again in Pokemon Sword and Shield, to others such as Tauros receiving three different Paldean forms in the current generation, the influence that the Kanto region has on the greater world of Pokemon goes beyond its borders.

A Reddit user by the name of threerobots posted a short, 18-second video of some of the Poke Balls they created. The video was posted on the r/pokemon subreddit, with designs for Blastoise, Machamp, Meowth, Mewtwo, and Lickitung among the ones featured. However, threerobots posted all 151 unique Poke Ball designs on their YouTube channel called “Here’s Wally” for Pokemon fans to take a look at.

According to the video’s story, the inspiration behind these fan-made Poke Balls was taken from another Kantonian Pokemon in the form of Ditto. Ditto can Transform into copies of other Pokemon they see and is commonly sought after by Pokemon breeders for the purpose of making Pokemon Eggs en masse. Ditto has appeared in nearly every main series Pokemon game to date. As a result, threerobots dubbed their creation the “Ditto Ball” and explained that the Ball, like the Pokemon it’s named after, takes on the likeness of the Pokemon that it holds inside.

The Reddit post received over 3.6k upvotes on the r/pokemon subreddit. In the comments, threerobots stated that they used Blender to make the designs for the “Ditto Ball” variants, but it remained unclear how long it took them to make each of the Poke Balls in question. However, threerobots expressed interest in making “Ditto Balls” based on Pokemon from other regions such as Johto in the future.

To this day, Poke Balls remain in use from Kanto to Paldea and are a staple item for Pokemon trainers around the world. While new, official Poke Ball designs are not as common an occurrence these days, that has not stopped Pokemon fans and artists from designing their own Poke Balls for their favorite Pokemon.
